Privacy notice

Updated 18 August 2026 Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) · APPs SunnyGrade · Sydney, NSW

This notice explains how SunnyGrade handles personal information when you read this site, leave your details in the reading-list form or allow browser notifications. It is written for readers in Australia and follows the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Who is responsible

SunnyGrade is an independent editorial project published from Sydney, New South Wales, at sunnygrade.com. Questions about this notice, or a request to see or correct what we hold, can be sent to support@sunnygrade.com. We answer privacy requests within 30 days.

What we collect

  • Reading-list details. The e-mail address you enter, the name if you choose to give one, and a record that you ticked the consent box together with the date and time.
  • Notification identifier. If you allow browser notifications, our provider issues a subscription identifier tied to your browser, not to your name.
  • Technical log data. Our hosting provider records the usual server information: IP address, browser and device user agent, the page requested, the referring address and a timestamp.
  • Your consent choice. A single value stored in your browser’s local storage so the consent bar is not shown to you again.

We do not ask for a telephone number, a postal address, payment card details or any government identifier, and there is no field on this site in which to enter them.

Why we use it and on what basis

  • To send issue notes and notifications — on the basis of the consent you give in the form or in the consent bar. Under the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) we identify ourselves as the sender in every message and include a working way to stop receiving them.
  • To keep the site available and secure — server logs are used to diagnose faults and to detect abuse.
  • To remember your consent choice — so that the bar and the notification prompt are not repeated.

Providing your details is voluntary. If you do not provide them you can still read every review on the site.

Who else sees it

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not disclose it for advertising. Personal information is disclosed only to the service providers that make the site work:

  • OneSignal processes browser notification subscriptions and the e-mail address you add to the reading list. It acts on our instructions and stores data on servers outside Australia.
  • Our hosting and content delivery provider serves the pages and keeps the technical logs described above.

Because these providers operate overseas, an overseas disclosure within the meaning of APP 8 can take place, chiefly to the United States. We take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that comparable protection is applied. We may also disclose information where an Australian law or a court order requires it.

How long we keep it

  • Reading-list details and the consent record: until you take that consent back, and then for up to 12 months so we can show that consent existed.
  • Notification identifiers: until the subscription is removed or you block notifications in your browser.
  • Server logs: normally up to 90 days.
  • The consent value in local storage: until you clear your browser storage or press Decline.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection, access to the reading list is limited to the editors, and we review our providers’ security statements before using them. No online service can promise perfect security, so we also keep the amount of information we collect deliberately small.

Your choices and rights

  • Ask for access to the personal information we hold about you (APP 12) or ask us to correct it (APP 13).
  • Take your consent back at any time by replying to any issue note or writing to support@sunnygrade.com.
  • Turn browser notifications off in your browser settings, or press Decline in the consent bar, which also removes the stored notification data from your browser.
  • Ask us to delete your reading-list entry entirely.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, which supervises the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Readers under 15

SunnyGrade is not intended for people under 15 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from readers below that age; if you believe a child has left details with us, write to the editors and we will remove the entry.

Cookies and browser storage

Details of every value stored in your browser are listed in our cookie notice.

Changes to this notice

If the way we handle personal information changes, we will publish a revised notice on this page with a new date at the top and, where the change is significant, mention it in the next issue note.

Back to the front page

This site keeps your choice in local storage so the bar does not reappear. Browser notifications through OneSignal start only if you accept here or tick the box in the reading-list form. Details are in the cookie notice.
